Sophie Burnham is the award-winning author of genre-defying and unapologetically queer speculative fiction. Their debut novel Sargassa won the Sidewise Award and was shortlisted for the Locus. Its sequel Bloodtide was longlisted for the BSFA Award, and in 2026 Sophie was a finalist for the Astounding Award for Best New Writer. The third and final installment of the trilogy releases in October 2027.

They have been a participating writer in—and the script doctor behind—multiple studio film and television projects. They’re a recovering theatre kid with a BFA in Acting from Syracuse University. Sophie currently lives in Scotland, and holds an MSc in Narrative Futures from the University of Edinburgh.
